4 Tips for a Tooth-Healthy Holiday

Posted .

The holiday season is nearly upon us, and with it will come family, friends, and lots of tasty food. Through all the merriment, remember to keep up with basic dental habits! Here are 4 tips to remember as you care for your teeth this holiday season.

Brush and Floss: Make sure you brush your teeth for 2 minutes, 2 times a day. Brush the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces of each tooth. Use a long piece of single-filament floss to clean between your teeth once daily–don’t forget behind the back molars!

Choose Good Tools: Use dental hygiene tools with the ADA Seal of Acceptance on the package. This guarantees a quality product. Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months (or sooner, if it gets contaminated). Look for the ADA symbol on chewing gum, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, and other dental and oral hygiene tools.

Be Mindful of Sweets: When eating sweets, don’t eat them over long periods of time. Eat a treat or two, then be done for a while. Drink lots of water in between, to help wash away sugars and acids, and chew ADA-approved sugar-free gum for 20 minutes before brushing.

Visit Your Dentist: Visit your dentist soon! You don’t want cavities or other dental emergencies encroaching on your holidays. To schedule an appointment in Burlingame, California, call United Dental Group at 650-777-9195 today! Dr. Michael S. Tseng and our team will be happy to help you.
